Explore the history of Grand Rapids from the perspective of the people, communities, and organizations that struggled and organized to fight for greater freedoms and equality.

Led by local author Jeff Smith, this discussion will present a counter narrative to the official history that is often presented about Grand Rapids. A People’s History of Grand Rapids provides information about the systems of power and oppression that sought to prevent people from achieving justice and equality. This discussion will cover a span of the 1820s to the early 21st century. The event will be followed by a book signing and Smith's books will be available for purchase.
